I was looking for an ornamental edible plant I could put in my hanging planters and I found two types of hot pepper plants. The jigsaw and the fish pepper.

The jigsaw pepper plant has purple, green, and white leaves and the peppers ripen from purple to red. The flowers of this plant are actually purple as well. Heat has been variable from sources I’ve seen, but most people say it’s very hot, similar to a ghost pepper.

The fish pepper has green and white leaves and the peppers have stripes and ripen from white to green with dark green stripes, to orange with brown stripes, then to red. It was commonly used in seafood dishes, which explains where it’s name comes from. Since the peppers start out white in color they were sought after for use in preparing white sauces since a dark red pepper in a white sauce doesn’t look as appealing. Heat is somewhere between jalapeño and serrano peppers.

I’m looking forward to watching them grow and can’t wait to see how hot the peppers are. ??
