When I find a chick peeping loudly by itself I always pick it up and put it in a brooder because none of our hens are ever interested in raising it. Today this has changed, but I didn’t realize it until after the mama hen slapped me in the face with it. ?
I put baby back with mama and made sure food and water was accessible. I have no worries that baby is well protected. Mama hen is a mix of silkie and Easter egger, and appears chick is as well.
