When I was browsing the Baker Creek seed catalog, which I admit I do for fun sometimes… 😏 I discovered Chinese Pink Celery and decided to try growing it. I planted seeds last fall as an experiment to see how it would grow and it carried on through the winter months in my tower planter. I used a frost cover to protect it on the really frosty days. I sampled pieces of it throughout the spring months and I finally harvested it yesterday, leaving some of it to go to seed for next years crop.
The flavor is stronger than regular celery and is most often used in cooked dishes rather than being eaten raw. I think it has a bit of a lemony taste to it as well.
It’s fun to watch grow, pretty to look at, and makes a tasty snack. A great choice for an edible ornamental or a kid’s garden.
