Mid-June garden tour.

I tried growing dwarf corn two years ago, but it didn’t do well because I planted it later in the season and our weather was too hot and dry. I’m trying again this year, with good results so far, except something chewed down the front row.

After I harvested the garlic I planted some cowpeas and three types of greens; blue kale, mizuna, and komatsuna, under a trellis. I’m hoping the cowpeas will provide enough shade for the greens to thrive.

The banana peppers are doing great, as are the garden peas. The garden peas are probably going to die off next week with the hot weather we are expecting.

I’m growing two types of melon up our cattle panels this year, sugar baby watermelon and rich sweetness melon. So far they seem to be doing well, I’ve been weaving them in and out of the panel and the vines are attaching themselves nicely. It will be interesting to see how well they produce fruit.

The white pattypan squash are growing large and producing a lot of flowers, but no squash yet. I’m looking forward to harvesting them, it’s my first time growing them.
